Wine was introduced to the
island of Tenerife a long time ago: After the conquest of the island by the
crown of Castile, sugar cane and vines were the first cultivations being planted
on Tenerife. The superb climate influenced by the gentle alisius winds, made
this island, and especially the area of Tacoronte the ideal place to produce
quality wines; wines, which already in the 16th and 17th century, reached
such a high prestige that they were appreciated by the most cosmopolitan markets
in Europe and America. Domingo López Arvelo is a man who loves his
land and its wine. He remembers his ancestors telling him how in the highest
part of what is today the vineyard of PRESAS OCAMPO, his family have been
devoted to the production of these exquisite wines, which not so long ago,
were considered a luxury that not everyone was able to afford then. When the
wine sector was regulated in the 80's, Canarian wines were given a new impulse
and this brave wine-farmer began the adventure of producing quality wines.
In 1990 these wines reached their high status by entering the regulating council
of Tacoronte-Acentejo and are now appreciated as coming from one of the most
important vineyards of the island.
